Initial Access

Accessing management interfaces for switch, PDU, and compute nodes.

⏱️ Time Required: 10-15 minutes

Overview

After first power-on, you'll need to access the management interfaces for the EnGenius switch and PDU to verify operation and configure network connectivity. Compute node access depends on the installed HCI software.

Components requiring initial access:

  • EnGenius managed switch
  • EnGenius managed PDU
  • IoT monitoring device (optional initial setup)
  • Compute nodes via HCI management interface

Default Network Configuration

The EnGenius switch and PDU ship with factory default settings as specified by EnGenius Networks. You will find a setup brochure in the accessory pouch for each item. Your reseller may have pre-configured it based on your requirements.

Important: Default IP addresses, credentials, and access methods are provided in the EnGenius documentation that ships with your EDC.

Reference documentation:

Typical EnGenius factory defaults (verify with documentation):

  • Default IP addressing scheme (commonly DHCP or 192.168.x.x range)
  • Default username: admin
  • Default password: Specified in EnGenius quick start guide

Accessing the Switch

  1. Connect laptop to a keystone jack port on the EDC
  2. Open web browser and navigate to switch IP address (typically http://192.168.0.239)
    • May see security warning for self-signed certificate - proceed anyway
  3. Log in with default credentials (see EnGenius documentation in accessory pouch)
  4. Verify dashboard shows port status and connections

Accessing the PDU

  1. Open web browser and navigate to PDU IP address (typically http://192.168.10.80)
    • May see security warning for self-signed certificate - proceed anyway
  2. Log in with default credentials (see EnGenius documentation in accessory pouch)
  3. Verify outlets are powered on and check power readings
  4. Check LCD display on rear panel shows normal voltage/current readings

Accessing IoT Monitoring Device

IoT device access is model-specific. Check device display or switch DHCP client table for IP address, then access via web browser with provided credentials.

Accessing Compute Nodes

Compute node access depends on the installed HCI software.

Via HCI Management Interface

Access methods vary by HCI platform:

Scale Computing HC3:

  • Web interface: https://<node-IP> (or cluster virtual IP)
  • Default credentials: Provided by Scale Computing or partner
  • Initial setup wizard on first access

StorMagic SvHCI:

  • Web console: https://<management-IP>:8443
  • Default credentials: Provided by StorMagic or partner
  • Cluster configuration required

Proxmox VE:

  • Web interface: https://<node-IP>:8006
  • Default credentials: Set during installation or provided by partner
  • Each node has individual interface

Harvester:

  • Web interface: https://<cluster-VIP>
  • Default credentials: Set during installation
  • Cluster management interface

Discovering Node IP Addresses

If node IPs are unknown:

Method 1: Check switch DHCP clients

  • Log into switch web interface
  • Navigate to DHCP client list or connected devices
  • Identify compute nodes by hostname or MAC address

Method 2: Check HCI documentation

  • Refer to HCI platform documentation or welcome letter
  • May include pre-configured IP addresses
  • Partner may have provided network documentation

Method 3: Connect monitor and keyboard

  • Temporarily connect display and keyboard to compute node
  • Check IP address at console/login screen
  • Disconnect display after obtaining IP

Initial HCI Access

Typical first access tasks:

  1. Log into HCI management interface - Use provided or default credentials
  2. Verify cluster status - Check all nodes are visible and cluster health is good
  3. Review network configuration - Verify node IP addresses and connectivity
  4. Document configuration - Record IP addresses and save passwords securely

Troubleshooting

Cannot reach switch or PDU web interface

Check:

  • Verify laptop network cable is connected and adapter enabled
  • Confirm laptop IP is in correct subnet (switch: 192.168.0.x, PDU: 192.168.10.x)
  • Verify you're using the correct IP address
  • Try different browser or disable VPN
Default password doesn't work

Check:

  • Verify password is for correct device (switch vs. PDU)
  • Check device label for device-specific password
  • Ensure caps lock is off
  • Contact partner/reseller if password was pre-configured
Cannot find compute node IP addresses

Try:

  • Check switch DHCP client table in web interface
  • Check HCI welcome letter or partner documentation
  • Connect monitor/keyboard to node to view IP at console
  • Contact partner/reseller for configuration details
Security certificate warnings

This is normal for EnGenius devices and HCI platforms using self-signed certificates. Click "Advanced" and proceed anyway for local management access.
